It was so nice to sleep in that Saturday after arriving in Germany. I slept until about 8 am. For my first breakfast, my family made quite a spread! There were rolls and pretzels (yeah, in Bavaria they eat a lot of Bretzel - soft pretzels that are so much better than our greasy ones!), meant slices, cheese, fruit, eggs that were purposely not-fully-hard-boiled, etc. It was yummy!
We then went to Country Line, a Dirndl store near Mühldorf, and originally Elli had said that we were going to walk around the Dirndl store. But as we were walking in, she said that her family wanted to buy me a Dirndl as a gift! I was like, "wirklich (really)?" So I found a beautiful blue Dirndl and the most modest blouse I could find. I was so excited! I always thought the traditional Bavarian dresses were beautiful. We then went into the old part of the town (their town buildings are so much prettier than any we have here in America) and stopped first at a cafe. I was still full from breakfast and just ordered some Leitungswasser (water without carbonation). We walked a little bit and stopped in a bookstore, where I spent my first 5 Euros. Then on the way home we stopped at Aldi for groceries.
After lunch we went and picked up Elli's friend Nici and the girl she hosted, Cassandra, and we went mini-golfing. It was different, though, because the golf areas are not made of fake green "grass" stuff, but were smooth and red or blue. It was a bit nicer, actually. It was fun. Nici and I tied for second and Cassandra won. Elli's mom bought us each an ice pop.
Back at our house, me, Elli and Nici dressed in our Dirndls and got ready for the small folks fest in Tüssling. The first American we saw there was Jake, and then we joined the other Americans and Germans at a table. More also arrived, and I wasn't the only one who had bought a Dirndl that day (or, Lederhosen, for the guys). We Americans were happy to be able to talk to each other again. I at a pretzel and had a bottle of Apfelschorle. All of the German guys had their beer, and the German girls mostly had a drink that is half beer and half lemonade. There were bumper cars (which a bunch of them had fun on) and other things there as well, a lot of food, a small band, and of course a lot of beer! It was fun, except for all of the smoke in the air from the multitude of smokers. It was a lot of fun and we stayed there until 10 pm.
