After homeroom on Wednesday we sat through German and then two math classes. Then in English Ethan and Corey presented their PowerPoint on the history of American music, and then the teacher asked us some questions about America and what not. Then we had another French class and Jake joined us because Ollie didn't have any more classes and he was coming home with Elli and I to work on translating our MC stuff (we had gotten our English draft checked).
Lunch was Schweinebraten - and it was SO GOOD! Definitely maybe the best thing I had eaten so far in Germany. After lunch Elli helped us with the translation, which she is just amazing at!
Then my German mom took Jake and I to the Bauernhof Museum, basically an old farmstead place with at least three separate house and barn areas spread out among fields and lanes, and we got to walk all around and check it out and it was actually really awesome. It was kind of funny, actually, how much fun we had doing that, because it looked a lot like colonial homes or farms back in America, and the farmland looked similar to Pennsylvania, too, but it was just....better somehow. :) Their farm houses were so pretty, with their skinny balconies with flowers on them. The rooms inside were so awesome, too, with tiny doors perfect for Jake (he's on the short side) and most of the houses were all set up the same way. In the one house we counted 12 beds, so think how large of a family they must have had! Their animal stalls were literally through a door in their house, and looked quite different from American barns, which was really neat. There was a peacock that was showing off, so we got some nice pictures of it. It was a beautiful sunny late afternoon and it felt like home, only better. There was also an old, set-up-the-pins-yourself bowling aisle in a random building. It was kind of odd. And, we saw hops for beer growing there. There was a pretty nice playground there, too, so Jake had fun playing on it.
My mom had to stop at a little grocery store for some stuff, so we went in with her. In the frozen pizza section, Jake said, "You know you're in Germany when the pictures of pizza have a fork in them!" It is true. We passed a whole bunch of Kinder Joys and Überraschungs, so we bought a bunch of them. My family laughed at us, but we told them they're illegal in the US so we have to enjoy getting them when we can!
For supper we tried Weißwurst (and also a few sips of beer without alcohol, but it is very disgusting, so one sip was enough for me) with the sweet mustard (Senf) and it wasn't bad, kind of like a different type of hot dog.
My dad brought his old tractor around and Elli drove it for the first time, and then Jake and I hopped on for a ride while her dad drove, and then Elli drove us. Then Jake's host dad picked him up. Overall, it was a really fun day.
